Von laptop, 10:25Computer maker Dell today said it will recall 4.1 million laptop computer batteries because of a potential fire hazard. It's reportedly one of the largest consumer electronics recalls in history.
The lithium-ion batteries being recalled are installed in 2.7 million laptops sold in the United States and 1.4 million sold overseas between April 2004 and July 18 of this year, Dell said.The comapany said the overheating was caused by a manufacturing defect in batteries made for it by Sony.The recalled batteries were Dell Latitude D410 battery , DellInspiron E1705 battery,DELL Latitude D610 battery,Dell Inspiron 700m battery and other Dell LatitudeTM , InspironTM , XPSTM , Dell Precision Mobile WorkstationTM laptop battery.
Most of laptop batteries are made of lithium ion based whereby ion that contains oxygen. Oxygen is the fuel for fire. If the laptop batteries are mistreated or poorly manufactured it may cause fire.
Tips for laptop battery.
* Recall by manufacture for replacement of laptop battery.
* Don’t let the laptop continuously charging even you’re not using it. If you felt hot from your battery immediately unplug the supply. If the battery is fully charge unplug the ac plug.
* Treat the battery fragile.
* Buy original battery as clone or refurbish battery may not be claimed under warranty or replacements.
